How do I find the win/loss frequency for every player in a tennis game?
I have a dataset with data on every player in the history of the World Tour event (current event, 2007-2009). I want to find the win/loss frequency for every player in this dataset, and I think the only way to do this is to iterate through each player and increment the count of his wins and losses when he wins a match, and then decrement the count when he loses.
I can find the count of wins for a player in a single tournament just by searching for all matches in that event, and then dividing the number of wins by the total number of matches in the event, but this is not exactly what I want to do.
Is there a way to do this?

Your method seems to work, though you might be better off just using MySQL’s own functions in the event that you are more familiar with that database.
From the MySQL documentation,
COUNT()
Returns a count of the number of occurrences in a set of rows. This
function is similar to the HAVING clause in the SELECT statement. If
COUNT(expr) is used to select a non-aggregate expression, a scalar
result is returned. Otherwise, the return is a number equal to the
number of rows on which expr is true. If no group by expression is
specified, the result is an arbitrary integer greater than zero.
